What is Mjolnir?

Mjolnir is a replacement hotend carriage I designed for the TwoTrees SP-5 / Sapphire Plus. It swaps the stock Bowden setup for a direct-drive Orbiter 1.5 extruder and a high-flow Phaetus Rapido hotend, which helps with flexible filaments and faster printing, and adds mounting for an inductive probe for bed levelling. It is named after Thor's hammer, in keeping with the Norse names of my other projects such as Fenrir.

What parts do you need?

The Mjolnir build is the printed parts plus these components:

  • Hotend: Phaetus Rapido (Phaetus)
  • Extruder: Orbiter 1.5 (Orbiter Projects)
  • Probe: a PINDA-style inductive probe (for example Prusa's SuperPINDA)
  • Fans: the original SP-5 / Sapphire Plus fans, so you don't need new ones
  • Hardware: M3 bolts and M3 heat-set inserts

How do you print and install it?

The Mjolnir parts print in standard PLA on any FDM printer; PETG or ASA is a better choice for the parts closest to the hotend if your printer runs hot or enclosed. Press the heat-set inserts in with a soldering iron, mount the Orbiter and Rapido, refit the stock fans and probe, then update your firmware's probe offsets and extruder settings for the Orbiter before printing. Does Mjolnir fit the TwoTrees Sapphire Pro?

Mjolnir is designed for the TwoTrees SP-5 and Sapphire Plus only. Other TwoTrees models have different carriages and are not supported.

Is Mjolnir free?

Mjolnir is free to download on Printables under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives licence, so you can print it for yourself but not sell it or remix it.

Do I need new fans?

No new fans are needed: Mjolnir is built around the SP-5 / Sapphire Plus stock fans.
